Quilt Classes with Jan Steele
Jan Steele has been periodically teaching beginner quilt classes here at the library since August of 2023. Several of our new quilters have said how wonderful Jan is as a teacher and how much they enjoyed her class. We are so appreciative of her taking the time to do this!
Beginner Quilt Class Overview
Learn the art of quilt-making by completing the Four-Patch Quilt in this 4-session Beginner Quilt Class, taught by Jan Steele.
Session 1: You will learn about the basic tools and supplies, how to choose fabric, and quilt terminology.
Session 2: Learn how to use your rotary cutter and ruler. Learn how to cut out your quilt and how to piece the top.
Session 3: Learn how to do borders, make the quilt "sandwich", and machine quilting.
Session 4: Learn binding and labeling.
Everyone will be working with the same basic pattern. (First-Time Quiltmaking, Second Edition, Revised & Expanded: Learning to Quilt in Six Easy Lessons, page 54.) Each quilt can be personalized according to the material that is used. The final size of the quilt will be 36x48.
You must register for the class ahead of time and pay at the time of registration. This class is limited to 6 people so everyone can have individual help. The cost of the class is $45.00, plus the book and supplies you will need. You will receive your list of supplies at the time of registration.
Our next Beginner Quilt Class will be held on four Tuesdays throughout April and May.
The first class will meet at JoAnn Fabrics in Lapeer on April 16th. The remaining three classes will be held at the Mayville Library on April 30th, May 14th, and May 21st from 12pm-3pm.
