Welcome to our 2024 Summer Reading Program.

Six weeks of reading fun!

June 25th — August 6th.

This program is at-your-own pace! You can visit us as frequently as you would like to. The more you read, the better chance you have at winning the coolest prizes!

Programs for every age!

2-5 group

This group is tasked with reading 8 books per week that they will track on their reading records. Each set of 8 earns them a mini prize from our treasure chest. A completed record at the end of the program is rewarded with a special prize!

6-12 group

This group gets rewarded for every 5 books they read (which is a lower number than previous years!) with a prize ticket for the drawing. There is also an optional weekly scavenger hunt that they can participate in for a special prize at the end of the program!

Teens and adults

This group is tasked with filling out a "review bookmark" for every book they read during these six weeks. Each returned bookmark is rewarded with a prize ticket for the drawing!

In-person events!

• Kickoff event: a magic show with Joel Tacey — June 25th at 11am
• 6-12 group prize drawing event — August 6th at 11am

There are only two in-person events during our program and they are intended for the 6-12 group. However, the Kickoff may be attended by any participants who are interested!

How it works!

Program details for the 2-5 group:

• Read 8 books per week and track them using the reading record found inside the program bag. 1 book read equals 1 sticker on the chart.

• Books must be checked out from the Mayville Library.

• When you have read 8 books, present your progress to the library staff to earn a prize from the treasure chest.

• The reading record you receive in your bag should last you the entirety of the program. We will not have any extra records or stickers available if you complete your sheet early. Please try to stick to the predetermined schedule of 8 books a week in order to get the most out of your summer reading experience.

• There will be activity sheets available for your child at the library each week: e.g. crafts and coloring pages.

• A completed reading record at the end of the program will be rewarded with a special prize.

Program details for the 6-12 group:

• Every 5 books read earns you a prize ticket! Once you’ve read and logged 5 books on your reading record, present it to the library staff, then receive a prize ticket for the drawing. There is no longer a limit on how many tickets you can earn!

• You are allowed to read as many books as you want and you must log all of them. Please try to write only one title per line on your log, shorten as needed.

• There are 4 grand prizes awarded to the top 2 readers who have read the most books in both the 6-8 group and the 9-12 group.

• Books must be checked out from the Mayville Library. You must read books at your reading level. Graphic fiction is allowed, but non-fiction is NOT allowed.

• There will also be an optional weekly activity that can be completed over the course of the program to earn a special prize.

Program details for the teens and adults:

• You may read whatever book you are interested in, as long as it is at your reading level.

• Books and audiobooks are both acceptable, and graphic fiction is allowed for teens. Books must be checked out from the Mayville Library collection to count.

• A “review bookmark” will be given to you at checkout. When you have finished reading your book, fill out the bookmark and return it with your book.

• Each completed review bookmark returned to the library staff is rewarded with a prize ticket. There is no limit on how many tickets can be earned!

• When your first bookmark is returned, you will be asked to fill out an “order of preference form” where you will list every one of the prizes in order of your preference for them. You will only be asked to do this once.

• Winners will be notified via phone after the program has ended.
